The Open Packaging Standard is an open source data standard initiated by Recyda to improve data exchange across the packaging value chain. As the Open Packaging Standard was created in the context of recyclability and sustainability, it currently might pay particular attention to the data attributes that are needed in these domains, however it is explicitely not limited to it. The Open Packaging Standard is intended to represent a holistic view on packagings, so any contribution from any other domain that helps to persues this goal is appreciated.
To maximize the ability to adopt to the standard, it sticks to other existing standards and / or code lists wherever possible and applicable.

Models the packaging which is used along the logistics chain of a specific article. It encompasses the consumer sales unit (primary packaging) as well as packaging units used for secondary or tertiary packaging.
The consumer sales unit models a primary packaging whereas for secondary and tertiary packaging, packaging units can be used for modelling.
Models a packaging body with all the additional components that stick to it permanently or not, e. g. a bottle with its cap and labels or a flexible bad / pouch with label and zipper. Can be used either as part of a consumer sales unit to model the primary packaging or "standalone" to model a secondary or tertiary packaging.
Models the components which together form the packaging unit, e. g. label, cap or spout. Also the packaging body itself is modelled as a component.
Models a physical layer of the component, made from a specific material.
